STURBRIDGE, Mass…OPTIM Incorporated, a leading manufacturer of endoscopic products, has discovered that both interest and demand for its FreedomView™ scope extends far beyond its medical applications.

The FreedomView™ LED Fiberscope is a hand-held, portable inspection device that combines a high intensity LED light source with a flexible, insertion shaft that can be fully immersed in water, gasoline and diesel fuel. It provides fast and accurate remote imaging, enabling visual inspections in hard-to-reach places, including: car engines, gas tanks, jet engine turbines, piping and storage compartments like cargo holds.

The scope generated significant interest at the recent Paris Air Show because of its portability, weight, brightness factor and ease of use on the tarmac. A video or digital camera can also be attached to the scope’s eyepiece to record findings for future use. It can expose even the smallest crack in an engine turbine so that mechanics can address the problem immediately, potentially avoiding major damage, costly repairs, and in worst cases, a catastrophic event.

“The applications for FreedomView are virtually limitless,” said Thomas Root, President and CEO of OPTIM. “With heightened security in the U.S., we’ve been able to demonstrate how the FreedomView can assist state and local law enforcement professionals with protecting our borders, detecting explosives and increasing the number of drug arrests.”

FreedomView™ is an approved product of the Department of Homeland Security’s Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP), which provides grants to state and local agencies to purchase technology equipment that enhances public safety efforts. FreedomView™ is also listed on the US General Services Administration schedule for government purchases.

FreedomView™ is also being used in the automotive industry. Recently, a scope was sold to a NASCAR Nextel Cup team for use in racecar inspections. It can detect hidden problems that can affect the car’s overall performance, including: component failure, carbon on the valves, cracks in the cylinder walls and piston valves not seating properly.

The product’s use across a variety of industries combined with its cutting-edge technology spell a future for OPTIM that’s as bright as the light source it provides to its customers. “As its name suggests, FreedomView was designed to bring the inside…out,” said Root. “I tell our customers ‘Just give us an opening, and we’ll light the way.’”
